Snowfall is a 2017 American crime drama television series created by John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Dave Andron. It premiered in the United States on July 5, 2017, on FX.
The action begins in Los Angeles in 1983, at the beginning of the crack cocaine epidemic that changes the lives of entire neighborhoods. At the center is Franklin Saint - an ambitious young man who sees in the drug trade an opportunity to escape poverty and build his own empire. In parallel with his story, the series follows a covert CIA operation, a Mexican fighter involved in the criminal world, and the daughter of an influential drug lord. Gradually, the paths of these characters cross, and their pursuit of money and power leads to increasingly serious consequences for them and for those around them.
The creators build a multi-layered crime drama that combines street crime with political interests and covert operations of the American services. John Singleton, known for the film Boyz n the Hood, brings a personal look at life in South Central Los Angeles and the social milieu in which the story unfolds. The series gradually expands in scope without losing touch with the consequences of the decisions of the individual characters. Season six brings the conflict to a grim conclusion in which the cost of the empire it has built becomes inevitable.
Damson Idris builds a convincing image of Franklin - a man whose intelligence and enterprise are gradually swallowed up by his ambition. Carter Hudson is Teddy McDonald, the CIA agent whose actions link criminal business with state interests, and Sergio Peris-Mencheta played by Gustavo "El Osso" Zapata. Michael Hyatt gives weight to the character of Franklin's mother, Sissy Saint, while Amen Joseph and Angela Lewis introduces Jerome and Louis - Franklin's relatives, who gradually go their separate ways. Isaiah John, Emily Rios, Malcolm Mace, Devin Tyler and Gail Bean complement the strong ensemble.
Snowfall is a gritty story about power, greed, and the destructive impact of drug trafficking on individuals and communities. The series wins with its complex characters and the way personal decisions are intertwined with larger political and social processes. Rather than presenting the criminal world as an easy path to success, it shows how each step forward makes it harder to turn back. The ending of season six gives the story a tragic whole and leaves a strong impression.
