The new Call of Duty movie will be based on Modern Warfare

The upcoming new film adaptation of Call of Duty, which is being developed by Paramount Pictures and Activision, will officially take place in the universe of Modern Warfare – the most popular and successful sub-series of the cult gaming franchise.

The news was confirmed by the director and co-writer Peter Berg during Fanatics Fest in New York. He revealed that the film will draw inspiration from the series. Modern Warfare, which is among the most beloved by fans of Call of Duty.

The script is being co-written by Peter Berg and Taylor Sheridan – the creator of the hit series „Yellowstone“, „Landman“ and „Special parts: Lioness“. In addition to being screenwriters, the two will also be producers of the project along with David Glasser from 101 Studios.

During CinemaCon in April it was announced that the film's premiere was scheduled for June 30, 2028. The date was not chosen by chance – then the franchise Call of Duty will mark 25 years since the first game came out in 2003.

The head of Activision, Rob Kostic, stressed that the creators are not rushing the project and want it to meet the high expectations of the fans.

„"We said from the very beginning that we would only make this film if everything was handled properly. In the face of David Ellison we found the right partner. Our goal is to recreate the authenticity of Call of Duty through realistic human stories combined with large-scale action," commented Kostic.

Call of Duty is one of the most successful series in video game history with over 500 million copies sold around the world. Over the years, games have taken players to the battlefields of World War II, Vietnam, as well as in modern and futuristic military conflicts.

The next title in the series – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, will be released on October 23. Its action will unfold around a large-scale military conflict between North and South Korea.
