Worldbreaker is a science fiction film directed by Brad Anderson (The mechanic (2004), Session 9 (2001)), which combines a post-apocalyptic future, monstrous creatures, and a human struggle for survival in a story filled with tension and family drama. The film is set for a limited international release in November 2025, with a mainstream U.S. release scheduled for January 30, 2026.
The action takes place five years after a breach in the fabric of reality, during which the world is invaded by fearsome Breakers - monstrous creatures that infect and transform people into deadly creatures, causing the near collapse of human civilization.
The main plot focuses on Willa, a young woman who is forced to go into hiding with her father on a remote island, where he prepares her for a life outside the law and to fight against these creatures. When a mysterious visitor from the stormy sea disrupts their secluded peace, Willa must apply everything she has learned to confront the growing threat of the Breakers and survive in a world that has lost almost everything.
Director Brad Anderson approaches Worldbreaker with a focus on intensity and atmosphere, combining elements of apocalyptic action with horror undertones and family drama. His style includes both dynamic action scenes and calmer, tense moments that explore the relationships and emotions of the characters in a post-human world.
Luke Evans leads the ensemble in the role of the father, a veteran fighter who carries the weight of his past and tries to maintain hope in a broken world. Milla Jovovich is in the role of the mother — the brave warrior on the front, whose fate is both inspiring and touching. Billy Boule performed by Willa, whose transition from a restless girl to a determined fighter is at the center of the story. Mila Harris completes the main cast as a mysterious young woman whose appearance shakes up the established order.
Worldbreaker is a bold blend of sci-fi action, horror, and human story that explores the struggle for survival in a destroyed world. While reviews from audiences and critics have been mixed—some citing a predictable plot and a lack of depth—the film offers visually stunning scenes, suspense, and strong performances, especially in the context of apocalypse and monster genre cinema.
