Two Is a Family

It all starts tomorrow.  (Two Is a Family; orig. title: Tomorrow everything starts) is a 2016 French drama comedy film directed by Hugo Gelin from a screenplay by Hugo Gelin, Mathieu Ullion and Jean-André Yerles. The film premiered in France on 7 December 2016.

It all starts tomorrow.  is a 2016 French dramedy that skillfully combines light humor with an emotionally charged story about parenthood, responsibility, and coming of age. The film begins as an unpretentious comedy, but gradually transforms into a human and touching drama that raises questions about the meaning of family and the choice to take responsibility for another.

The story focuses on a man living carefree by the sea, whose world is turned upside down when a former love shows up on his doorstep with unexpected news. Left with a baby in his arms, the hero is forced to make a choice he is not prepared for – to run away or to take on the role of father.

The plot follows the years in which the two – father and daughter – build a relationship based on improvisation, affection and small daily victories. The story develops beyond the cliché of the „perfect family“ and shows how love can appear where initially there is only fear and uncertainty.

The direction relies on a smooth transition between comedy and drama, without sharp tonal breakdowns. The camera is close to the characters and emphasizes intimate moments - laughter, fatigue, doubt and affection. The film is not rushed and gives the characters time to develop, which makes the emotional twists more natural and impactful.

Omar Si carries the film with a charismatic and warm performance. He skillfully moves from comic lightness to dramatic depth, building a character who grows up with his child. His acting makes the character both likable and believable.
The little one Gloria Colston is surprisingly convincing – her presence lends authenticity and emotional sincerity to the story.
Clemence Poesy complements the film with a more restrained but important role that poses moral and emotional questions without imposing definitive answers.

It all starts tomorrow.  is a human, sincere and unobtrusive film that proves that strong emotions do not require complicated plots. It is a story about love as a choice and about family as something that is built, not simply inherited. The film manages to make you laugh, cry and most of all – to remind you that sometimes the most unexpected circumstances lead to the most meaningful relationships.
