The Upside (2017) is a 2017 American comedy film directed by Neil Burger from a screenplay by John Hartmeier. The film was released in the United States on January 11, 2019.
Philippe Lacas (Bryan Cranston) is a disabled white billionaire who sees no point in continuing to live. To help him with his daily tasks, he hires Del Scott (Kevin Hart) – an African-American man on probation who tries to mend his relationship with his estranged wife. What begins as a professional relationship quickly blossoms into a friendship, especially as Del shows strong evidence that life is worth living.
The film is an English-language remake of the French The Untouchables (The Intouchables) from 2011, which is inspired by the life of Filippo Pozzo di Borgo. The new version of the film premiered at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival and was scheduled for a March 2018 theatrical release, but due to the Harvey Weinstein scandal, the film was pushed back to January 11, 2019.
