The Three Musketeers: Milady (2023)

The Three Musketeers - Part II: Milady

The Three Musketeers: Milady (orig. title: Les trois mousquetaires: Milady / The Three Musketeers - Part II: Milady) is a 2023 French-Spanish-Belgian-German action adventure film directed by Martin Bourboulon from a screenplay by Mathieu Delaporte, Alexandre de la Patelliere, and Alexandre Dumas (author of the 1844 novel The Three Musketeers). The film is set to be released in France on December 10, 2023.

A sequel to the French adventure adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' novel, "Milady" is the second film in a two-part saga, following the first film, "„The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan„". With a budget of around €36 million, the production stands out with large-scale battle scenes and a dynamic action spirit, while strategy and intrigue once again dominate the plot.

The film begins directly after the events of the first part - D'Artagnan rescues Milady from prison and enters into a complex game of friends and enemies. The war against La Rochelle and the political intrigues between Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu create tension that keeps the story going with espionage, hints and betrayals.

Eva Green stands out as Milady de Winter – a complex, dangerous and erotically manipulative figure undergoing a physical and emotional transformation. She demonstrates remarkable willpower and athleticism, prepared by intensive training for the role. The Four Musketeers — Francois Civil (D'Artagnan), Vincent Cassel (Athos), Pio Marmay (Porthos) and Romain Dury (Aramis) — they retain the chemistry from the first part and demonstrate brotherly solidarity and combat excellence.

The film is rich in picturesque scenes, from the palaces of France to the siege of La Rochelle. The action, with its time-lapsed shots and symmetrical compositions, creates a sense of control amidst the chaos of political conflict.

„Milady is a compelling sequel that offers thrilling adventures, well-choreographed action, and a dark female figure who subverts authority with her presence. It's a film that proves that adaptations of classics continue to have vitality—especially when you invest in a contemporary style and acting commitment.
