The last loss (The Last Manhunt) is a 2022 American Western action film directed by Christian Camargo from a screenplay by Jason Momoa and Thomas Pa'a Sibbett. The film is set to premiere on movie platforms on November 18, 2022.
The film is a Western drama inspired by true events, telling the tragic story of love, misunderstanding, and persecution in the early 1900s in the California desert.
The main characters are Willie Boy (Martin Sensmeier) – a young Indian from the Chehuila people – and his beloved Carlota (Mainei Kinimaka). Their love is forbidden by Carlotta's father, who disapproves of their relationship. After the young couple decide to elope, the father's accidental death during a collision places Willy in the role of a wanted murderer.
A massive manhunt begins, led by the sheriff and a media hungry for sensationalism. As the hunt progresses, truth and facts become distorted, and local tribal beliefs and culture clash with the pressures of the white world.
The film offers not only intense action, but also a profound critique of injustices against indigenous people, while simultaneously revealing the beauty and cruelty of the American West.
