The Cat in the Hat (The Cat in the Hat) is a 2026 American animated family adventure fantasy film directed by Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoja from a screenplay by Alessandro Carloni, Erica Rivinoja, and Dr. Seuss. The film is set to be released in the United States on November 6, 2026.
The Cat in the Hat is a highly anticipated animated film adaptation of the 1957 Dr. Seuss classic children's book, produced by Warner Bros. Pictures Animation. It is the studio's first feature-length animated film since its rebranding, and combines the renowned humor and lighthearted fantasy of the original story with new elements and a larger universe.
In this fresh take on the beloved character, the mysterious and playful cat in the red and white hat is an agent of IIII (Institute for the Institution of Imagination and Inspiration, LLC), an organization whose mission is to spread joy and imagination. In order to keep his magic hat, he is given his most difficult assignment yet: helping two children—Gabby and Sebastian—deal with the hardships of moving to a new city and the loneliness that comes with it.
The classic Dr. Seuss idea remains—a cat intervenes in the boredom of a rainy day, creating a whirlwind of magic, absurd inventions, and hilarity. But this time, the story unfolds in a larger, more fantastical world, showing how joy and creativity can change a child's perspective without revealing any specific twists.
Directed by Alessandro Carloni and Erica Rivinoia, the creative duo manages to inject fresh energy into a classic story. The style combines traditional animation principles with modern visual solutions that make the world of the film richer and more layered - an approach that resonates equally well with young viewers and adults who are familiar with the original.
One of the film's strengths is the stellar voice cast, which brings character and soul to the charismatic characters:
Bill Hader — "gives voice" to the Cat in the Hat, conveying a playful, quick, and charming tone that manages to balance whimsy and empathy.
Xochitl Gomez — is voiced by Gabby, one of the children at the center of the story; her energy adds sincerity to the children's experience.
Quinta Brunson — as part of the vocal ensemble, brings warmth and comic nuances.
Matt Berry, Paula Pell, Thiago Martinez, Giancarlo Esposito, America Ferrera, Bowen Young and Titus Burgess — all of whom contribute to the film's rich and diverse voice world, creating a mix of characters and emotions.
This ensemble helps bring to life not only the cat, but also the entire gallery of characters who add humor, dynamism, and heart to the adventure.
The Cat in the Hat is a heartfelt, visually sophisticated and hilarious animated film that manages to honor the spirit of the original book while expanding its world for a new generation of viewers. The story of joy, friendship and imagination is presented with grace and fresh humor, providing family entertainment that combines classic values with modern animation tools.
The Cat in the Hat promises to be one of the more smiling and exciting titles in the 2026 film season, suitable for both children and adults who cherish a child's view of the world.
