One Life (2023)
One Life is a 2023 Australian-British-American biographical film directed by James Hawes from a screenplay by Lucinda Coxon, Nick Drake, and Barbara Winton. The film premiered in the United States on
The true story of Sir Nicholas "Nicky" Winton, a young London broker who, in the months leading up to World War II, saved 669 mostly Jewish children from the Nazis. Nicky visits Prague in December 1938 and finds families who have fled the rise of the Nazis in Germany and Austria living in desperate conditions with little or no shelter or food, and under threat of Nazi invasion. He quickly realises that it is a race against time. How many children can he and his team save before the borders close?
Fifty years later, it's 1988, and Nicky lives haunted by the fate of the children he failed to bring to safety in England, blaming himself for not doing more. It's only when a live BBC television show, "Such is Life," surprises him by introducing him to some of the surviving children - now adults - that he finally begins to come to terms with the guilt and grief he has carried for five decades.
