Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy (orig. title: Jeonjijeok dokja sijeom) is a 2025 South Korean action-adventure fantasy film directed by Kim Byung-woo from a screenplay by Kim Byung-woo and Lee Jong-min. The film is set to be released in South Korea on July 23, 2025.
The plot centers on Kim Deok-ja, an ordinary office worker who is the only one who has read a special web novel titled Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse.
When the novel suddenly begins to become reality, the world is plunged into chaos and trials known to him as plot scenarios. Dok-ja uses his knowledge of the novel to lead a group of survivors and try to change the doomed ending, against the powerful hero Yoo Jung-hyuk (who appears in reality in the film).
The film combines elements of fantasy, action, fate, and metanarrative — when reality and fiction merge, and how far a person who knows what is supposed to happen can go.
Director Kim Byung-woo uses epic visual effects, impressive sets, and large-scale landscapes to create a world where fiction and reality intertwine. Jeon Hye-jin's cinematography mixes dark, somber tones with vivid crime scenes and surreal elements to enhance the suspense and fantasy nature of the film. The score by Mowg supports emotional peaks and dramatic moments without dominating the visual narrative.
„Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy“" is a bold and visually expansive adaptation of a beloved web novel/comic. If you accept that the film can't include all the details of the original, but appreciate the large-scale fantasy, the star cast, and the idea of turning the reader into a savior, you'll find merit and entertainment in it. For fans of the original, however, the changes and cuts will likely be painfully felt.
