Cousin Rachel (2017)

My Cousin Rachel

Cousin Rachel (My Cousin Rachel) is a 2017 American film directed by Roger Mitchell from a screenplay by Roger Mitchell.

Orphan Philip (Sam Claflin) is taken in and raised by his cousin Ambrose, a landowner in Devon. At one point, Ambrose, whose doctor has recommended a warmer climate, goes to Tuscany. There he meets Rachel (Rachel Weisz), half Italian and his cousin, whom he marries. After an idyllic beginning, the situation deteriorates. Shortly before his death, Ambrose manages to inform Philip that his wife is killing him slowly.

Wanting to find out the truth, Philip goes to Ambrose's place, but doesn't find Rachel because she has left. Instead, he meets Reinaldi, her friend and lawyer, who doesn't inspire confidence in him. He returns home, convinced that Rachel is evil and that she is the reason for Ambrose's death.

A little later, Rachel announces her arrival. Determined to give her a cold welcome, Philip is stunned to find a woman who is not only beautiful but also elegant, intelligent, and sensitive. Instead of strangling her, as he says before, he falls in love. Madly.

The film is based on the 1951 novel of the same name by Daphne du Maurier.
