The Joker: Madness for Two (Joker: Folie a Deux) is a 2024 American crime thriller film directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay by Scott Silver, Todd Phillips, and Bob Kane. The film is set to be released in the United States on October 4, 2024.
Expect the embrace of darkness in Joker: Folie a Deux by Todd Phillips. The sequel to the billion-dollar box office hit, Joker, introduces the antihero Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), who is serving a sentence in Arkham Asylum after his key role in the deadly Gotham City uprising. There, fate will send him and fellow inmate Harleen Quinzel (Lady Gaga) on a path of clownish chaos and musically colored destruction.
A lot of thought has gone into the film's title (a reference to shared psychosis), and it's safe to assume that this sequel will blur the boundaries of reality with its highly theatrical stage performances. But the devastating impact these characters have on the real people in their lives (portrayed in part by Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener and Zazie Beets, among others), will likely stay with audiences long after the Clown Prince's story is over.
