French Lover (2025)

French Lover (literal translation: French lover) is a 2025 French romantic comedy film directed by Lisa-Nina Reeves from a screenplay by Hugo Guélin, Shirley Moussoyef, and Lisa-Nina Reeves. The film premiered on the Netflix movie platform on September 26, 2025.

„French Lover“" is a romantic comedy produced in France and distributed by Netflix, which promises a fresh and elegant take on the classic "star meets ordinary woman" formula. The directorial debut of Nina Reeves (known for her behind-the-scenes work on Lupin) skillfully combines the spotlight with the intimacy of small, human stories.

The main character is Adel Camara – a big star, the heart and mind of society, but with an empty inner space. His life is turned upside down when a chance meeting with Marion – an ordinary waitress whose days revolve around understanding and self-improvement, becomes the beginning of an unexpected love. This dynamic between glamour and authenticity is at the heart of the film’s gypsy chemistry.

The director relies on an aesthetic that balances Paris in all its romantic light – cafes, city streets, architecture. This creates a beautiful canvas on which the story of the two characters blossoms.

Omar Si and Sarah Giraudeau enter the lead roles and bring both charisma and warmth. Between the contrast of style and authenticity, a trembling but delicate feeling is born. The two, supported by the talent of Hugo Gehlen (producer and co-writer), whose experience in romantic comedies, as in "„My Unknown“ (Love at Second Sight) and "„Two Is a Family“", adds a touch of mastery to the script.

The film skillfully plays with humor that builds on the typical "regular girl meets star" without falling into clichés. The Parisian location, light humor and emotional spark between the characters remind us of "„Notting Hill“", but with a milder and refreshing flavor.
