A wackier Friday (Freakier Friday) is a 2025 American comedy fantasy film directed by Nisha Ganatra from a screenplay by Jordan Weiss, Leslie Dixon, Heather Hatch, and Mary Rogers (based on her novel). The film is set to be released in the United States on August 8, 2025.
The action takes place years after the initial body swap between Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Anna (Lindsay Lohan). Anna is now the mother of a daughter named Harper and has a future stepdaughter, Lily, as she prepares to remarry Eric Davis. Unexpectedly, Anna and Tess find themselves once again involved in a body-swapping situation, this time involving both Harper and Lily, leading to even more comical and chaotic situations.
The film is a sequel to the 2003 hit comedy "Fresh Friday" and is the seventh film in the franchise. Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan reprise their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman.
In May 2023, Disney announced that a sequel to Freaky Friday was in development, starring Curtis and Lohan. In March 2024, Nisha Ganatra was hired to direct, with Jordan Weiss rewriting the script. Principal photography began on June 24, 2024, in Los Angeles, and wrapped on August 21 of that year.
The film promises to offer a fresh and entertaining take on the classic body-swapping story, featuring a new generation of characters and challenges.
