Better Man (2024)

Better Man is a 2024 Australian-American musical fantasy film directed by Michael Gracey from a screenplay by Simon Gleeson, Oliver Cole, and Michael Gracey. The film is set for a United States release on December 25, 2024.

The film follows the life of Robbie Williams from his childhood in Stoke-on-Trent in the 1980s, when eight-year-old Robbie found solace in the support of his grandmother Betty and singing lessons from his father Peter. As a teenager, Robbie joined the boy band Take That, where he quickly rose to fame, but also faced internal conflicts and drug abuse. After leaving the group, he went through periods of personal and professional challenges, including addiction and depression. Eventually, Robbie managed to recover, launched a successful solo career and found inner peace.

The film features some of Robbie Williams' most famous songs, such as "She's the One", "Angels" and "Let Me Entertain You". Musical performances are integrated into the plot, reflecting the emotional moments of Robbie's life. The original soundtrack was composed by Batu Sener.

„"Better Man" received mixed reviews from critics. Some praised the innovative approach and honest portrayal of Robbie's struggles with fame and addiction. Others, however, found the use of a CGI chimpanzee to portray the main character distracting and unsuccessful.

„"Better Man" offers a unique and bold look at the life of Robbie Williams, using unconventional visuals to explore themes of self-esteem, fame and personal demons. Despite mixed reactions, the film delivers a deep and emotional story about one of Britain's most famous performers.
