Love is a bitch (Love dogs) is a 2000 Mexican film directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu written by Guillermo Arriaga. The film is the first part of the "Trilogy of Death" (Trilogy of Death) of Iñárritu, followed by "„21 grams“" (21 Grams) of 2003 and "„Babylon“" (Babel) from 2006. The film premiered in Mexico on June 16, 2000.
The film tells three stories connected by a car accident in Mexico City. Each of the three stories is a reflection of the cruelty directed at humans and animals, showing how people can live ambiguous and hidden double lives. The focus of the film is loyalty, symbolized by the dog - "man's best friend".
Dogs are important to all characters in the three stories, and in each of them the forms of loyalty vary from loyalty to disloyalty: disloyalty by the brother trying to seduce his brother's wife; disloyalty to a woman by maintaining a relationship with a mistress with subsequent disloyalty to the mistress after she is traumatized and loses her beauty; loss of loyalty to youthful idealism and rediscovered loyalty between daughter and hired man.
