Alpha Gang is a 2026 American-British science fiction comedy film directed by David Zellner and Nathan Zellner from a screenplay by David Zellner. It premiered in the United States on September 5, 2026, at the Telluride Film Festival.
A group of aliens arrive on Earth with a simple mission - to conquer it. To remain unnoticed, the invaders adopt the image of a band of rockers from the 50s, but their plan begins to fall apart when they themselves are confronted with something they do not understand - human emotions. The group is led by Alpha One, who gradually discovers that feelings can be far more dangerous to an alien mission than any human weapon. Thus, the attempt to conquer the planet becomes an absurd encounter between alien discipline and the unpredictable nature of humans.
The Zellner brothers use the idea of an alien invasion as the basis for an unusual comedy that combines science fiction, absurd humor and an aesthetic inspired by 1950s American pop culture. The leather jackets, motorcycles and rock band image contrast amusingly with the fact that the characters are actually aliens trying to understand human behavior. After Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter and Sasquatch Sunset David and Nathan Zellner once again rely on an unusual concept and a specific comedic tone.
Cate Blanchett is at the head of the ensemble as Alpha One, and around her gather Lea Seydoux, Dave Batista, Chris Pine, Riley Keough, Lily-Rose Depp, Pe Du-na and Kelvin Harrison Jr.. The cast is one of the production's big attractions, as established dramatic actors are placed in a completely absurd genre situation. The contrast between the serious presence of Blanchett and Pine and the deliberately exaggerated style of the alien gang is particularly interesting.
Alpha Gang transforms the classic idea of an alien invasion into a story about what it means to feel emotions. Instead of another large-scale battle between humans and aliens, the film focuses on the confusion of beings who gradually discover qualities incompatible with their original mission. The unusual cast and the distinctive style of the Zellner brothers make the production different from standard science fiction movies. For viewers who like absurd comedy, strange genre combinations and stories with an unconventional idea, Alpha Gang offers a curious look at the eternal theme of human-alien contact.
