Rage (Fury) is a 2014 American-Chinese-British military drama action film directed by David Ayer from a screenplay by David Ayer. The film was released in the United States on October 17, 2014.
The action in "„Rage“" is set in April 1945, in the final weeks of World War II, as Allied forces advance deep into German territory. The film is notable for its grim realism, harsh atmosphere, and focus on the human cost of war rather than its heroic aspects.
After years of continuous combat, experienced tank commander Don "Wardeddy" Collier and his crew continue their advance through Germany in their Sherman tank, nicknamed "Fury". The group is made up of hardened veterans who have experienced countless battles and lost much of their humanity. After the death of one of the crew members, a young scribe, Norman Ellison, is assigned to them, with almost no combat experience. Found among people for whom violence is an everyday occurrence, Norman is forced to quickly adapt to a reality in which morality and survival often prove incompatible. As the war draws to a close, the crew is given a dangerous mission behind enemy lines. Faced with forces vastly superior to them, the five soldiers must decide whether to retreat or stay and fight to the last.
David Ayer builds the film as a harsh and uncompromising study of war. Instead of patriotic pathos, he shows the physical and mental exhaustion of people who have spent years at the front. The battle scenes are particularly impressive, filmed with a sense of chaos, danger and realism. The cramped spaces in the tank create a sense of claustrophobia, and the muddy battlefields and destroyed German cities reinforce the feeling of hopelessness and devastation.
Brad Pitt gives one of his strongest dramatic performances as Don Collier. He builds a character as a leader who carries the weight of war on his shoulders and tries to keep his men alive despite impossible circumstances.
Logan Lerman impresses as Norman Ellison. His transformation from a scared and inexperienced rookie to a man forced to accept the brutality of war is the emotional core of the film.
Strong roles make more Shia LaBeouf like the deeply religious Boyd "Bible" Swan, Michael Peña like Trini Garcia and John Burntall like the aggressive Grady Travis. Together they create a compelling image of a fighting brotherhood built on trust, fear, and shared trauma.
„Rage“" is among the most impactful war films of its decade. Rather than romanticizing war, the production shows its brutality and the psychological consequences for the people who wage it. Thanks to David Ayer's realistic direction, an excellent cast, and tense battle scenes, the film becomes a powerful and emotional experience. It is a story of survival, friendship, and the loss of innocence in a world where humanity is constantly put to the test.
