Taxi Driver (1976)

Taxi Driver

Taxi driver (Taxi Driver) is a popular 1976 film directed by Martin Scorsese written by Paul Schroeder. The film has four nominations for the "„Oscar„", including Best Picture and Best Actor for Robert De Niro. The film premiered on February 8, 1976.

Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) is a former Marine and Vietnam War veteran living in New York City. He suffers from insomnia, so he spends his time working as a taxi driver at night, watching porn movies in seedy movie theaters during the day, or contemplating how the world, and New York City in particular, has become a cesspool.

Travis is a loner who has strong opinions about what is right and wrong in humanity. For him, the only bright spot among the people of New York is Betsy (Sybil Shepherd), who is a contributor to the presidential campaign of Senator Charles Palantine (Leonard Harris). Gradually, Travis becomes obsessed with her. After an incident with her, he decides to do whatever it takes to make the world a better place, according to his own ideas.

One of his priorities is to become Iris's savior (Jodie Foster) – a twelve-year-old runaway prostitute who, according to him, wants to give up this profession, but is pressured by her pimp and lover Matthew.
