Frankenstein (2025)

Frankenstein

Frankenstein (Frankenstein) is a 2025 American fantasy horror film directed by Guillermo del Toro written by Guillermo del Toro. The film will premiere on Netflix on November 7, 2025.

„Frankenstein“" is an adaptation of the classic novel by Mary Shelley, which examines the history of Victor Frankenstein — a scientist obsessed with the idea of overcoming the boundaries between life and death. The film emphasizes not only the thread of horror and science fiction, but also human emotions — guilt, responsibility, the search for identity, the father-son relationship, and the struggle between what is morally justified and what is sacrificed.

The story takes place in Eastern Europe in the 19th century. Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Oscar Isaac), a brilliant but obsessed scientist, succeeds in creating life through an experiment that violates the laws of nature. He creates a being that is physically powerful but emotionally vulnerable. The creature, played by Jacob Elordi, is rejected by society and his creator, which pushes him towards a path of self-discovery and revenge.

After being thought to have perished in a fire forty years ago, the Creature is discovered by Dr. Septimus Praetorius, another scientist who wants to continue Frankenstein's experiments. This leads to a new series of events that question the moral boundaries of science and the creation of life.

Guillermo del Toro relies on Gothic aestheticism — a wealth of details, contrasts between light and dark, meticulously crafted sets and costumes, preserving the spirit of the 19th century, but with a modern directorial sensibility.

The camera and cinematography (by Dan Laustsen) utilize wide panoramas, detailed facial shots, and lighting that emphasizes the Creature's physical transformation and also Victor's internal conflicts.

The musical score by Alexandre Desplat contributes symphonic sadness, heightening the tension and emotional weight at key moments — between the creator-creature encounter, the confrontations, and the characters' inner monologue.

„Frankenstein“" on Guillermo del Toro is a grand adaptation that tries to present the classic myth with scale, artistic flair and human depth. For those who love cinema with big emotions, with monsters, but also with moral questions — this film will be an experience. However, if you expect a strict horror, with crazy twists and a fast pace — you may not find everything you are looking for.
