Christian Wolf (Ben Affleck) is a brilliant mathematician who prefers numbers to people. Behind the cover of a small-town office, he works as an accountant for some of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the world. With a potential threat to his profession arising from the anti-crime unit of the Treasury Department, led by Ray King (J. K. Simmons), Christian takes on the task of servicing a legal client – a modern robotics company, in which an official (Anna Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. The more Christian delves into the accounts and gets closer to the truth, the more the body count around him increases.
