Parasite (Parasite / orig. title: Gisaengchung) is a 2019 South Korean black comedy film directed by Bong Joon-ho from a screenplay by Bong Joon-ho. The film premiered in South Korea on May 30, 2019.
Kim's mother and father, Chung-suk and Ki-taek, and their children, Ki-woo and Ki-jun, are a poor family living in a run-down and overcrowded semi-underground apartment in a working-class neighborhood in Seoul. Without even suspecting it, they literally reek of poverty. The family often has to resort to petty fraud, and even when they have jobs, they try to make minimal effort.
Ki-woo dreams of escaping poverty by going to university. Although he does not yet have a university degree, he is chosen to continue teaching Park Da-hui's private lessons by his friend and student Min, who is about to leave for college. The Parks are a wealthy family who have been living in their modern house, designed by the famous architect Namsung, for four years.
Gradually, the remaining members of the poor family manage to trick their way into the home and under the skin of the rich. What follows is a series of unexpected actions and unpredictable situations, leading only to the question of how far the Kim family is capable of going in their deception and in their quest to become their own version of the Park family.
