Emancipation (Emancipation) is a 2022 American action thriller film directed by Antoine Fuqua from a screenplay by Bill Collage. The film is set to be released in the United States on December 2, 2022.
„"„Emancipation“" tells the story of Peter (Will Smith), who manages to escape slavery, relying on his wit, unwavering faith, and deep love for family, escaping his cold-blooded pursuers and the merciless swamps of Louisiana, striving for freedom.
The film was inspired by a series of photographs called "Flogged Peter", taken in 1863 during a medical examination of a Union soldier during the American Civil War, which were first published in Harper's Weekly. One of the photographs, known as "The Tortured Back", shows Peter's bare back, disfigured by whipping marks inflicted by his captors, contributing to growing public discontent against slavery.
A compelling and true story about a man who would do anything for family and freedom.
