The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth
Rights holder / Distributor: Netflix
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is a 2026 American comedy-drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Quentin Tarantino. It premiered on the Netflix movie platform on November 25, 2026.
Plot
Eight years after the events in Once upon a time in Hollywood Cliffy Booth now lives in a different era of Hollywood. The year is 1977, and the former stuntman works various temporary jobs until he gradually becomes the man the film industry turns to when problems arise that can't be resolved through formal channels. His new role as a kind of mediator brings him back to a world filled with ambition, secrets, and dangerous deals.
Another assignment comes from agent Karen Crosby, who hires him because of the problems of TV star Charlie Peters. The story involves Peters' wife Toni, former football player Roderick "Hot Rod" Harrison and two gangsters who create chaos in Los Angeles. Thus, Cliffy's usual unforeseen situations gradually develop into a crime story in which Hollywood turns out to be a place of violence, extortion and dangerous personal interests.
Directing
David Fincher takes over the direction of a story that continues the world created by Quentin Tarantino but moves the action eight years into the future. It's a curious combination of Tarantino's distinctive scriptwriting style and Fincher's visual style, known from Seven, Fight Club и The social network. Instead of copying the atmosphere of the previous film, the production seems to be aiming for a darker criminal environment in which the hero is now faced with a different Hollywood.
Particularly interesting is the change in time and place in Cliffy's life. While Once upon a time in Hollywood uses 1969 as the basis for an alternate version of history, the new production sets it in the late 1970s, when Hollywood itself has already changed. This allows Fincher to build a stand-alone crime story while maintaining the connection to one of Tarantino's most recognizable characters.
Acting
Brad Pitt reprises the role of Cliffy Booth, for which he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Once upon a time in Hollywood. In the new story, the character is now at a different stage in his life, but he retains his calm demeanor and ability to deal with dangerous situations in his own way. Since the production has not yet been released, the final assessment of the performances will have to wait for the premiere.
A diverse ensemble gathers around Pete, including Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, Timothy Olyphant и Holt McCallini. Timothy Olyphant has an additional connection to the Hollywood theme of the story through his role as James Stacy, while the rest of the characters are part of the new criminal network around Cliffy. The cast suggests that the film will rely not only on the familiar protagonist, but also on a number of new faces to build the atmosphere of 1977 Los Angeles.
Conclusion
The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth has a clear connection with Once upon a time in Hollywood, but the available footage suggests a shift in tone and setting. The story moves Cliffie from the alternative Hollywood of 1969 to the darker criminal milieu of 1977, transforming him from a stuntman to a behind-the-scenes problem solver. This shift allows the familiar character to be placed in an entirely new situation.
For fans of Hollywood, Quentin Tarantino, and unusual crime stories, the production has an interesting starting point even before its premiere. The combination of Tarantino's script, Fincher's direction, and the return of Brad Pitt makes the project an unusual continuation of an already familiar world. However, the final assessment can only be made after the film is released in IMAX on November 25 and on Netflix on December 23, 2026.
